Managing Australia's Borders

Perth Immigration Detention Centre in Western Australia

The Perth Immigration Detention Centre was opened in 1981 and is located within the Perth Domestic Airport precinct.

Originally the site was constructed for administrative purposes by the Australian Federal Police then later adapted for use as an immigration detention centre.

The Perth Immigration Detention Centre mainly caters for people who have over-stayed their visa or had their visa cancelled because they failed to comply with their visa conditions. People refused entry to Australia at international airports and seaports are also detained there, and people with a criminal conviction awaiting removal to another country.
