Leonora Alternative Place of Detention

The Leonora Alternative Place of Detention (APOD) opened in June 2010. It is located within one kilometre of the Leonora town centre. Leonora is a small town about 900 kilometres north-east of Perth and about 300 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie.

Accommodation and facilities

The Leonora APOD comprises two main accommodation areas with a number of support buildings that include:

  • Laundries
  • Central kitchen and dining room
  • Canteen
  • Laundry facilities
  • Multi-purpose rooms for recreation
  • Crèche
  • Toy library
  • Learning centre and religious room
  • Medical centre
  • Swimming pool
  • Mini soccer field

The operational aspects of the facility are undertaken by the Detention Services Provider, SERCO. As the facility is privately owned, maintenance, cleaning and catering services are provided by the owner.
