What is VEVO

VEVO is a free online facility that allows organisations to check the visa entitlements of a visa holder.
The most common users of the system are employers and labour supply companies to confirm a visa holder's entitlement to work in Australia.

Other users include education providers to check the study entitlement of a visa holder. Certain other organisation have a need to check visa holder entitlements, to check whether a person is in Australia permanently or temporarily.

Visa holders can use VEVO to view details of their visa. To use the facility, you will either need a TRN or password. To have a password recorded, or if you have forgotten your TRN or password, please contact the department.

Organisations

Employers and labour supply companies should register for the work entitlements category only. This category enables the registered organisation to check the work entitlements of a prospective employee.

Education institutions should register for the study entitlements category. This category enables educational institutions to check the study entitlements of students. Educational institutions should also register for the work entitlements category if they are an employer.

If your organisation has a need to use VEVO for a purpose outside of work and study rights, contact the Employer's Immigration Hotline and someone will assist you with your registration.

Important items to note

Organisations need to be aware of the follow important items:

  • organisation based outside Australia cannot register for VEVO
  • only holders of non-Australian passports can be checked in VEVO
Note: VEVO will not allow details of Australian passports to be entered.

What information do you need to perform a search in VEVO?

Before undertaking a search in VEVO you will need to request to see the person's foreign passport.

You will then need to obtain their permission to check their visa details. Using the person's passport, you can enter the following information into the VEVO system:

  • name
  • date of birth
  • passport number
  • passport country of issue.

Important password information

You will need to contact the department to request a reset of your password if:

  • your account has locked automatically after 90 day of not being used
  • you have forgotten your password.

VEVO is by far the easiest and fastest way of performing a check on a person's visa entitlements. However, if in the unlikely event the VEVO system is not available, you can still perform a check using the Visa Entitlement Verification Faxback Service or seek assistance from the Employer's Immigration Hotline.

Visa Entitlement Verification Faxback Service

Is a toll free tax service that provides written confirmation of an employee' work entitlements within two working days.

To use the faxback service, complete the Request to Obtain Details of Immigration Status from the Department form and fax to the department

Fax: 1800 505 550

Employers Immigration Hotline

Use this number, as an employer, to check the meaning of work condition codes. This service will not give specific information as it relates to a client, it will only be able to provide assistance in understanding work condition codes as they relate to employing a visa holder.
