Your New Life in Australia
Australia is a country of great diversity. People from all over the world have made Australia home. Australians value tolerance, equality, democracy and respect for people. Under Australian law you can continue to maintain your culture and religion, and there are laws to protect you from discrimination. It is against the law to use violence towards any person including your family members.
You will find parks, playgrounds, gyms and swimming pools in your local area. On the weekends, many people get outdoors and visit the beach or have barbeques with family and friends in the park.
When you first arrive the ways people communicate may seem strange to you. It is important to show respect for people and be polite about these differences. English is the main language but many Australian's speak another language at home.
