Reception and assistance on arrival
Your IHSS case manager will meet you at the airport and take you to your housing. You will be required to contribute to the cost of the accommodation. You should let your case manager know if you have any health problems at this time. If you or a family member is unwell, a doctor will assist you.
Your case manager will show you around your local area and walk you to the local shops. The case manager will also assist with any urgent needs for clothing and footwear.
Note: If you have a subclass 202 visa you should arrange for your proposer to meet you at the airport.
Information and referrals
Your IHSS service provider knows what is required when you first settle in Australia. Your case manager will meet with you, your family (and your proposer) and work out your individual needs. They will refer you to other government agencies that can provide income support, health care, English language classes and employment services.
Note: If you entered Australia on a subclass 202 visa a service provider will provide information and guidance to you and your proposer and establish a case management plan.
Housing services
Your IHSS case manager will help you find suitable housing. They will help you with the lease and to connect services like electricity, gas, and the telephone. You will also be given household goods. The household goods may include a fridge, washing machine, TV and beds. Your case manager will help you to understand what is required for household care and cleanliness. A package of food and hygiene products will be provided at your housing to help you through the first few days.
Short term torture and trauma counselling
If you are suffering from stress or anxiety, counselling can help you. Your case manager or proposer can make an appointment for you to see a counsellor.
