Help for proposers - what organisations provide assistance for humanitarian entrants?


Centrelink

Centrelink provides income assistance until your entrant can find work. There are no waiting periods for refugees and permanent humanitarian visa holders. When visiting Centrelink you need to ensure that you take your entrant(s) bank account details, tax file number and proof of identity. Centrelink can also help your new entrant enrol with the Job Network to find employment.

Medicare Australia

Medicare Australia provides free or subsidised public health care. Your entrant(s) may be eligible for a Medicare Card and a Health Care Card. Your entrant will need to take your Document for travel to Australia with them.

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)

AMEP offers 510 hours free language tuition to adults over 18 years of age. To find out where your entrant can learn English contact the Department of Immigration.

Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS)

TIS provides free assistance to recently arrived humanitarian entrants. They also provide document translation.
