In 2009–10 the AMEP provided English language tuition to over 50 000 clients.

In 2009–10 AMEP expenditure on English tuition and related services was $203.3 million.
Client statistics
During 2009–10:
- 54.1 per cent of AMEP clients across all tuition methods and the Special Preparatory Program (SPP) were family stream entrants, 28.5 per cent were humanitarian stream entrants and 17.4 per cent were dependents of skilled entrants
- AMEP clients (all delivery methods and SPP) represented 193 countries of birth
- 20 per cent of all clients indicated that they had seven years or less of formal education
- 66 per cent of all clients were female
- 76.3 per cent of all clients were aged from 16 to 44 and 23.7 per cent were aged above 44 years of age
- the most commonly spoken languages were Mandarin, Arabic and Vietnamese.
