Services Funded
The Settlement Grants Program (SGP) funds the following services:
- Orientation to Australia
- Developing Communities
- Integration - Inclusion and Participation
- Orientation to Australia
- Orientation projects will equip clients with the skills and information they need to operate independently and access mainstream services. Projects may take the form of provision of information, referral to appropriate agencies and casework with individuals and families.
- Developing Communities
- Community development projects will aim to help newly arrived humanitarian communities to identify common goals and interests and develop a sense of identity and belonging. Community development projects may focus on developing potential leaders, harnessing the skills of the client group and assisting community leaders to promote their community positively to Australian society.
- Integration – Inclusion and Participation
- Integration projects will promote participation in mainstream society through encouraging new arrivals to interact with the broader community and encouraging the broader community to be receptive and responsive. Potential projects may include initiatives around sport, schools, small business, cottage industries, volunteering and driver education.
Services Not Funded
The SGP does not fund:
- specialist counselling services
- services that are the responsibility of other Commonwealth, State/Territory or local government agencies, or specialist services (for example, English classes or childcare)
- professional translating or interpreting services
- multicultural events, such as festivals or celebrations.
