Settlement is the period of adjustment that occurs following a migrant or refugee's arrival in a new country, as they become established and independent in their new society.

Government assistance to help new arrivals to settle takes account of their needs and circumstances.
What Programmes are Being Funded?
The department provides resources for settlement programmes that assist migrants' and humanitarian entrants' early settlement and complement mainstream services provided for all Australians.
Review of Settlement Services
A major Review of Settlement Services for Migrants and Humanitarian Entrants was conducted by the department in 2003.
