Humanitarian Entrants - What do I need to know about my journey to Australia?

Who pays for my travel?

The Australian Government organises and pays for your airfare if your visa is under subclass 200, 201, 203 or 204. You or your proposer arranges and pays for the airfare if your visa is subclass 202.

On the day of your travel

On the day of the flight be at the airport in plenty of time. Most airlines recommend you arrive there three hours before the flight time. The weight limit for your baggage is 40kg. This means you may have one bag under 40kg and one item of hand luggage that fulfils the airline's limits. The airlines advise you to carry travel papers, valuable, precious and fragile items in your hand luggage and items you may need for the flight. Take the usual security care of your baggage during packing and at the airport.
Do not carry any illegal goods in your baggage.

During travel

Take notice of any advice that the airline gives you prior to departure and during the flight. You will find that airline staff is very helpful at check-in and on the aircraft. During the flight, you receive regular meals and drinks free. The airlines cater for special dietary needs by request when you book tickets.

Incoming Passenger Card

Airline staff will give you an Incoming Passenger Card to fill out during the flight. Each person, including children, has a card to complete. If you have young children, you may need to complete their card for them. Ask the airline staff if you have any questions about the incoming passenger card.
