Access and Equity Inquiry

On 18 November 2011, Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Senator the Hon Kate Lundy, announced the establishment of an independent panel of eminent community leaders to conduct an inquiry into Australian Government services to ensure they are responsive to the needs of Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The Inquiry Panel is examining the Australian Government's Access and Equity Strategy and Framework which applies to all Australian Government policies, programs and services.

Responsive government services

The Australian Government aims to provide services that are fair, easy to access and simple to use. Services should respond to the cultural and linguistic needs of Australia's diverse society. When appropriate, Australian Government departments and agencies provide translated information or interpreters. When planning services they consult with community groups on their cultural needs.
