Criteria for approval as a Standard Business Sponsor

Client summary

From 27 June 2009, the Migration Regulations 1994 ('the Regulations') are amended to insert a new criterion for approval as a Standard Business Sponsor.  The new criterion requires prospective sponsors to attest to having a strong record of, or demonstrated commitment to:

  • employing local labour; and
  • non-discriminatory work practices.

Affected legislation

Regulation 1.20D of the Migration Regulations 1994 is amended.

Transitional provisions: This change applies to all applications for approval as a Standard Business Sponsor made but not finally determined on 27 June 2009 and to all applications made on or after 27 June 2009.

Forms: 1196 (Internet) has been updated. 1196 will be updated on 14 September 2009.

Instructions: PAM3 has been amended to reflect these changes.
