Adjustment of fees and refunds in the Australian Citizenship Regulations 2007

Client summary
From 1 July 2009, the Australian Citizenship Regulations 2007 ('the Citizenship Regulations') are amended to adjust fees and refunds relating to certain applications made under Part 2 of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 ('the Citizenship Act').
The Citizenship Regulations are amended to increase, by approximately 10 per cent, the fees in relation to certain applications made under Part 2 of the Citizenship Act, and refunds provided for in subregulation 13(5) of the Citizenship Regulations.;
Subregulation 13(5) of the Citizenship Regulations is amended to increase the refund that a person may receive in the circumstances prescribed in paragraphs 13(5)(a) – (d), which relate to an applicant not sitting a citizenship test and consequently not being eligible for citizenship by conferral. The refund is increased from $120 to $130.;

Transitional provisions: The amendments apply in relation to an application made under Part 2 of the Citizenship Act on or after 1 July 2009.
