Contributory Parent Visa Amendments

Client summary

From 10 September 2007, amendments will be made to the Migration Regulations 1994 in relation to temporary and permanent Contributory Parent visas.

The amendments allow applicants who have held a temporary contributory parent visa at any time since last entering Australia to be able to apply for a wider range of visas if they are outside Australia.

The amendments also result in certain applicants for permanent contributory parent visas who:

to be considered to be the holder of a temporary contributory parent visa at the time of application to allow them to benefit from lower visa application charges and less stringent criteria for the grant of a permanent contributory parent visa.
