The Migration Amendment (Statutory Agency) Act 2007 (the Amending Act) amends the Migration Act 1958 (the Act) to:
- make the Principal Member of the Refugee Review Tribunal and the Registrars, the Deputy Registrars and other officers of the Migration Review Tribunal and Refugee Review Tribunal engaged under the Public Service Act 1999, together constitute a Statutory Agency for the purposes of the Public Service Act 1999
- provide that the Principal Member of the Refugee Review Tribunal is the Agency Head of that Statutory Agency.
The Amending Act implements the last of a number of minor changes to the governance arrangements for the Migration Review Tribunal and Refugee Review Tribunal, in accordance with the recommendations in the 2003 Uhrig Report on the Corporate Governance of Statutory Authorities and Office Holders.
The Amending Act received Royal Assent on 21 June 2007 and commenced on 22 June 2007.
