Amendments to Migration Regulations 1994 relating to conditions on Bridging Visas for applicants for certain permanent skilled visas

From 1 July 2007, the Migration Regulations 1994 (‘the regulations’) are amended to provide that there are no conditions on Bridging A or B visas granted to applicants for a Skilled – Independent Overseas Student (Class DD) visa or a Skilled – Australian-sponsored Overseas Student (Class DE) visa.
Technical details
The following provisions of the regulations are amended:
- New subclause 010.611(3B) inserted in Schedule 1
- Subclauses 020.611(3), (4) and (5) substituted in Schedule 1.
Additional information:
These amendments implement the intended policy following amendments made on 1 October 2006. By oversight, those amendments failed to completely remove the conditions from the relevant visas as was the policy intention.
Transitional arrangements:
The amendments apply to all applications made but not finalized before 1 July 2007, and to all applications made on and after 1 July 2007.
