Changes to General Skilled Migration (GSM)

Client summary

From 1 January 2007, amendments have been made to the Migration Regulations 1994 to clarify that in relation to an application for a sponsored GSM visa (Subclasses 138, 496, 862, 863, 881, 882, and 883), a main applicant may be sponsored by a person who is related to that applicant’s spouse only when the spouse is also an applicant for the same visa.

(iii) Schedule 6A, item 9

Transitional arrangements:

Amendments to Schedules 1 and 2 to the Regulations apply to applications for a visa made on or after 1 January 2007.

Amendments Schedule 6A to the Regulations apply to applications made but not finally determined before 1 January 2007.
