From 1 July 2005 the Migration Regulations 1994 will define 'Macau' and will also clarify the meaning of 'foreign country' in various Notes.

Technical details

The definition of 'Macau' will be inserted in Regulation 1.03 to provide that:
'Macau means the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China'.

Notes after subregulations 2.25A(1) and 5.36(1), paragraph 1224A(3)(a) of Schedule 1 to the Regulations and subclause 417.211(3) of Schedule 2 to the Regulations will be amended to provide that:
'foreign country is defined in paragraph 22(1)(f) of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 as any country (whether of not an independent sovereign state) outside Australia and the external Territories.'
