Internet lodgement available for passport holders from the United Arab Emirates applying for an electronic Subclass 676 Tourist (Short Stay) visa

From 1 March 2003, immigration law has been amended to allow United Arab Emirates passport holders who are outside Australia to lodge a Tourist (Short Stay) visa (subclass 676) application over the Internet.
Technical details
Additional information: A Gazette Notice will come into effect on 1 March 2003 which specifies that passport holders from the United Arab Emirates are eligible to apply for an electronic subclass 676 visa specified for the purposes of paragraph 1218(3)(bb) of the Regulations.
Paragraph 1218(3)(bb) of the Migration Regulations 1994 provides that an Internet application for a subclass 676 visa may be made if the applicant is outside Australia and is the holder of a passport of a kind specified in a Gazette Notice for this purpose.
Transitional arrangements: Nil.
Forms: 48 (Internet).
Instructions: PAM3 documents relating to subclass 676 are being updated.
Effect on delegations: Nil.
Effect on systems: Changes have been made in the
eBusiness and ICSE environments and also to the Australian Customs
Service border system. The functionality for the lodgement of these
applications will not become available until 10 March 2003.
