Panel Doctors Gateway

Advantages of eHealth

Using online health processing as part of lodging an eVisa application results in a significant reduction in the time it takes to assess a visa applicant against the health requirement. Decision makers do not need to wait for medical forms to be sent by courier before making an assessment. In most cases a health assessment can be finalised within 24 to 48 hours after the panel doctor has submitted the examination results.

In the 2007–08 program year, 71 696 visa applicants used eHealth to complete their medical and/or radiology examinations. This reflects an uptake rate of around 70 per cent amongst eligible eVisa applicants. In countries with greater eHealth clinic coverage, such as South Korea, eHealth uptake is as high as 98 per cent.

Becoming involved in eHealth

The department intends to continue the expansion of eHealth. Any panel clinics interested in eHealth should advise the Health Strategies Unit (HSU) of their interest. This will assist the department in assessing cost-effectiveness when planning further expansion.
