eHealth is the department's electronic health processing system.

What are the benefits of eHealth?

eHealth removes the need to process paper-based health examination reports, and allows panel doctors to record a visa applicant's health information electronically. This includes their health examination results, digital chest x-rays, specialist reports, and biometric photographs.

As health information is submitted electronically, the information is received instantly by the department, avoiding any delay associated with sending hard copy health examination results to Australia.

Importantly, 75 per cent of eHealth cases are then able to be auto-cleared with no manual intervention. Furthermore, the remaining 25 per cent are processed within 48 hours by the department's Global Health processing centre – with the majority processed and finalised in minutes.

Why use eHealth?

eHealth means:

  • no paper records
  • faster processing
  • less complaints from clients.

Eventually, the department will require almost all its panel doctors to be eHealth enabled. This means that their clinics will have eHealth available and will be processing cases only through eHealth.

How do I get eHealth?

Teams from the department's national office are travelling to different countries to train panel doctors to use the eHealth system. Alternatively, the department can remotely set up a panel doctor to be eHealth enabled at any time.

Who can use eHealth?

The documents below explain where eHealth is currently available and which visa applicants can use it. The eHealth coverage document also outlines the countries that have 100 per cent eHealth arrangements in place, that is, panel doctors that have been asked to process all health examinations using eHealth.
