Registered Migration Agents can access the department's Visa Entitlements Verification Online (VEVO) facility to determine the work entitlements and residence status of their clients.
You cannot use VEVO to verify the status of Australian citizens who were born in Australia.
Before registering for this service, you are strongly encouraged to familiarise yourself with the Terms and Conditions of VEVO use. In particular you should note section 13.5 which says:
'If your inquiry is about a person who is not entitled to be in Australia, the Commonwealth may use this information to help locate that person.'
Once registered, you must only use VEVO to verify the status of those people who you have a legitimate reason to check.
Information is available on how migration agents and employers can check the work entitlements of visa holders and the penalties under the Migration Act 1958 for a person who knowingly or recklessly allows an illegal worker to work or refers an illegal worker for work with another business.
