Pilot for Subclass 457 Overseas Business Sponsorship Processing

There are changes to the processing location for Subclass 457 Overseas Business Sponsorship applications for business sponsors based in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Currently the processing of Overseas Business Sponsorship (OBS) applications and the associated nomination and visa applications is undertaken at the relevant overseas post.

From 1 December 2010, all Subclass 457 OBS applications formerly processed at the London post – that is, those relating to business sponsors based in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland – will be processed at the department’s New South Wales Centre of Excellence.

This move is part of an upcoming pilot the department is undertaking as part of the department’s broader transformation to strengthen Australia’s borders through the world class delivery of migration, visa and citizenship services.

Where to lodge an application for sponsorship

There will be no change to the application process. Applications will still be lodged at the London Office. They will be transferred to Sydney for processing. Applicants will receive an acknowledgement letter with details of the OBS file reference number and a contact officer in Sydney.

To assist with the transfer process any supporting documents can also be emailed to the Overseas Business Sponsorship mailbox.

The pilot is being undertaken to test the possibility of relocating processing of all Subclass 457 OBS applications to Australia. It is anticipated that this will enhance global process consistency and efficiency.
