Registration requirements for agents outside Australia

People based outside Australia, who provide immigration assistance overseas, do not need to be registered in Australia. However, they may need to meet local registration requirements in their country of operation.

The regulation requirements for migration agents differ throughout the world. Some countries regulate agents, while in other countries agents are not permitted to offer migration advice services at all.

Registering with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (Office of the MARA)

Agents based outside Australia may apply to become a registered migration agent if they are:

  • an Australian citizen
  • the holder of an Australian permanent visa or
  • a New Zealand citizen holding a special category visa.
