General visa enquiries

Before you contact the department with general enquiries about General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas, you should read the website content and relevant fact sheets.

Post-lodgement enquiries

If you have lodged a GSM visa application, but it has not been allocated to a case officer (in order of preferred contact):

Important: If you have been allocated a case officer, please correspond directly by email with them, where possible.

Progress of application

Online applications

Check the progress of your application online using your allocated Transaction Reference Number (TRN). If you do not know your TRN you can send a request for this information to be supplied to you.
Note: You must have an email contact address to use this facility.

Paper applications

You are encouraged to check the allocation dates and processing time service standards before making contact with the department.

Sending in documents

Online applications

Applications lodged online can have documents attached online through the eVisa system.
Note: If you cannot remember or do not have a copy of the password that you supplied when this application was created, you will not be able to retrieve your online application to attach documents. You will need to provide any additional attachments to the office processing your application.

Paper applications

When you have received your client file number you can scan and email additional documents to the GSM Documents mailbox.

Information on appropriate file formats and tips on file naming and reducing file sizes for online applications can also be used when emailing additional documents for paper applications.
