Lodging a visa application
At the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC)
The department has an agreement with VFS (Thailand) Ltd to provide Australian visa lodgement services in Thailand through the AVAC. The AVAC accepts applications for Australian visas.
Exception: Refugee and Humanitarian Entry
Clients can lodge their visa application in person at the AVAC in Bangkok or at one of the six (6) GDA courier centres selected by VFS across Thailand.
A fee will be charged for this service in addition to the scheduled fee charged by the Australian Embassy for all visa applications.

By post or by courier to the Australian Embassy
Please ensure you have enclosed the appropriate visa charges by cashier's cheque purchased in Bangkok or Nonthaburi, Samutprakarn provinces; or by bank draft purchased in Thailand and payable to the ‘Australian Embassy Bangkok’ in Thai Baht.

At the Australian Embassy in person
To lodge in person at the Embassy you will need to make an appointment, however you can lodge your application at the AVAC during their business hours without an appointment. To make an appointment with the Embassy.

Permanent entry visas
Permanent entry visa applications (except general skilled, business skills and parent subclasses) are processed and decided in Bangkok. Permanent entry visa applications from Burma and Laos are also processed and decided in Bangkok (except general skilled, business skills and parent subclasses).
From 1 May 2009, all partner and family migration applications from clients who live in Pakistan (with the exception of Afghani nationals) will be processed in Bangkok.
General skilled migration applications are lodged and processed at the Adelaide Skilled processing Centre.

Contributory parent and parent migration applications are lodged and processed at the Parent Visa Centre.

Temporary entry visas
Temporary entry visa applications are lodged, processed and decided in Bangkok.
416 Special Program applications are lodged and processed at the Hobart Special Program Processing Centre.

Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) applications for Thai nationals are lodged, processed and decided in Bangkok.
Sponsored Family Visitor visa (subclass 679) applications must be lodged by the sponsor at a state or territory office within Australia.
If you are sponsored by an Australian employer for a Subclass 457 Business (Long Stay) visa, you may lodge your visa application online or at an Australia office of the department. If you are sponsored by an overseas business, you can lodge your visa application with the Australia Immigration Office responsible for applications in your country.

Online Applications
If you are sponsored by an Australian employer you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer at which office they lodged these papers.

Citizenship applications
Citizenship applications and applications to register children by descent should be lodged at the Australian Embassy, Bangkok, during the client counter hours. No appointment is necessary.
