Visa Information


Permanent Entry visas

Partner and family migration applications from Afghani nationals resident in Afghanistan or Pakistan are processed by the Australian Consulate-General in Dubai.  All partner and family migration applications from clients who live in Pakistan (with the exception of Afghani nationals) are processed by the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Note: Clients are encouraged to lodge their application directly with the office in Bangkok or Dubai. However, applications will continue to be accepted at the client's nearest immigration office.

General skilled migration applications are lodged and processed at the Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre.

Refugee and Humanitarian visas

Clients from Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen whose application for a Refugee and Humanitarian (Class XB) visa is accompanied by a proposal form (form 681) must lodge their application at the department’s Melbourne CBD office. This applies to people who are lodging a visa for consideration under the Global Special Humanitarian Program (SHP) or as an immediate family member.

Temporary Entry visas

Student visa applications by citizens of Pakistan (living in Pakistan or New Zealand) and Afghanistan (living in Afghanistan, Pakistan or New Zealand) must be lodged with the Adelaide Offshore Student Processing Centre in Australia.

416 Special Program applications are lodged and processed at the Hobart Special Program Processing Centre.

420 Entertainment sponsorship and visa applications are lodged and processed at the Sydney Entertainment Processing Centre.

Sponsored Family Visitor visa (subclass 679) applications must be lodged by the sponsor at a state or territory office within Australia.

If you are sponsored by an Australian employer for a Subclass 457 Business (Long Stay) visa, you may lodge your visa application online or at an Australia office of the department. If you are sponsored by an overseas business, you can lodge your visa application with the Australia Immigration Office responsible for applications in your country.

Online Applications

If you are sponsored by an Australian employer, you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer at which office they lodged these papers.

All other temporary entry visa applications, except those listed above, from citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan that are lodged in Islamabad will be processed and decided by that office.

Special procedures

Tehran processes and decides all permanent and temporary entry visa applications lodged by persons in Iran.
