Lodging a visa application
At VFS: the department has an agreement with VFS Global Service Private Ltd. (VFS) to provide Australian visa lodgement services in India and Nepal. VFS accepts applications for Australian visas. Clients can lodge their applications in person through VFS in ten (10) locations in India and Nepal. A VFS fee will be charged for each application lodged through a VFS Application Center.

By post or courier to the Australian High Commission
Please ensure you have enclosed the appropriate visa charges as a single demand draft for Indian Rupees, made payable to the 'Australian High Commission, New Delhi'.

To lodge in person at the High Commission you will need to make an appointment, however you can lodge your application at a VFS Application Center during business hours without an appointment. To make an appointment with the High Commission.

Permanent entry visas
Family, Partner and Refugee/Humanitarian visa applications from India, Bhutan and Nepal are lodged, processed and decided in New Delhi.
General skilled migration applications are lodged and processed at the Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre.

Temporary entry visas
Visitor, Business (Short Stay), Medical Treatment, Resident Return and Transit Visa applications from states of India, Bhutan and Nepal are processed and decided in New Delhi.
Student visa applications for all India, Nepal and Bhutan are processed by New Delhi.
416 Special Program applications are lodged and processed at the Hobart Special Program Processing Centre.

Sponsored Family Visitor visa (subclass 679) applications must be lodged by the sponsor at a State or Territory office within Australia.
If you are sponsored by an Australian employer for a Subclass 457 Business (Long Stay) visa, you may lodge your visa application online or at an Australia office of the department. If you are sponsored by an overseas business, you can lodge your visa application with the Australia Immigration Office responsible for applications in your country.

Online Applications
If you are sponsored by an Australian employer, you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer at which office they lodged these papers.

Visa stamping/evidencing
Clients who have been granted a visa by a visa processing centre in Australia and who have been issued an approval letter can submit passports for visa 'stamping' (or evidencing) to the nearest VFS Center. A nominal VFS service charge will apply to cover the courier costs.
