Software

Before you download any items or make changes to your computer, we recommend that you contact your PC maintenance service or the technician who installed your operating system.

Checking your Browser

To ensure the security and privacy of your information, this site uses a secure protocol (HTTPS) for all transmissions of personal data between your browser and the site. This means that your browser must be able to support HTTPS. The site will attempt to establish a secure connection using 128-bit encryption. If the browser does not support this level of encryption, then the connection will not be established and you will not be able to access, or submit a subscription for, LEGENDcom.

If your browser does not support the secure protocol (HTTPS), you will need to update your browser to access LEGENDcom. The most recent versions of commonly used browsers can be downloaded free of charge from the web sites of the suppliers.

LEGENDcom has been built to run using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later Service Pack 2 with Java Plug-in v1.3.1; Java and cookie support must be enabled.

Internet Explorer

You can check the version and encryption strength of your copy of Internet Explorer by opening the application, choosing the Help Menu from the toolbar, then About Internet Explorer. If the version is incorrect or Cipher Strength shows anything smaller than 128 bit, then you will need to upgrade your browser to access LEGENDcom.

You can either click the Update Information link next to the Cipher Strength in the About Internet Explorer box, or visit the Microsoft website and follow the instructions for downloading an upgrade of your internet browser.

Internet Explorer 7 users may experience the Internet Explorer error message ‘connection timed out’. The common reason for this error relates to a website page that is not displayed within a few minutes.  Internet Explorer imposes a time-out limit for a page to load.

Adobe Reader

LEGENDcom includes Adobe fillable forms that can be saved and completed offline. To save the fillable forms and the data you have entered you need to have Adobe Reader 6.0 or better. You can check the version of your copy of Adobe Reader by opening the application, choosing the Help Menu from the toolbar, then About Adobe Reader.

Adobe Reader is available by visiting the Adobe website and following the instructions for downloading the latest version.

Java

If you open LEGENDcom and are unable to see or use the Table of Contents (ie the grey area on the left of your screen is blank), this is probably due to Java not being installed on your computer.

If you do not have Java on your computer you can still access LEGENDcom using HTML by following the steps below. This option gives you the same access to legislation, policy, and fillable forms.

Step Action

1

Locate the Table of Contents in LEGENDcom (the grey area to the left of the screen).

2

Click on the 'HTML' tab at the top of the Table of Contents.

Alternatively, you can download the Java component direct from the Java website. (We recommend downloading Java by selecting the 'Manual Download' link at the top of the page, and then Windows Offline Installation.) The component is referred to as the Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE).
Note: This is over 12MB so the download may take quite some time depending on the speed of your modem.
