Skills assessment authority
Before you can migrate to Australia as a skilled migrant you must have your skills assessed by the relevant national assessment authority. The assessment authority for your occupation is:
Australian Pharmacy Council (APharmC)
The Australian Pharmacy Examining Committee (APEC) is a standing committee of APharmC that assists overseas trained pharmacists to obtain registration in Australia and thus enable them to practise their profession in hospitals and community pharmacies in Australia. APEC also assesses Australian qualified pharmacists wishing to migrate to Australia.
The first step in the APEC process is to apply for an assessment of your qualifications to determine your eligibility to undertake the APEC examination process. An application form for the eligibility assessment may be downloaded from the APEC website.
If you are intending to migrate to Australia a skills assessment letter will be provided to you when you have met the APEC English language requirement and passed the Stage I Examination (a multiple choice question examination which covers the basic pharmaceutical sciences), and you should submit that letter to your nearest Australian migration office to initiate your migration application. Both the English test and the Stage I Examination may be taken overseas. The remainder of the examination process, which consists of an interview, a period of supervised practice and a second examination (known as the Stage II Examination) may be completed upon arrival in Australia.
When you complete the APEC (examination process), you will be eligible for a certificate issued by APharmC, which entitles you to apply for registration with any of the Australian state and territory pharmacy registering authorities. Once you are registered in Australia you will have the same rights to practise as an Australian trained pharmacist.
Different arrangements may apply for pharmacists qualified and registered in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, the United States of America or New Zealand. Please contact APEC for more information.
