Verbally renders spoken statements from one language into another.
Skill level
The entry requirement for this occupation is:
- successfully completing a NAATI accreditation test, or
- obtaining a qualification from an Australian NAATI-approved course at the standard required by NAATI, or
- NAATI recognition of a qualification obtained overseas (which requires a bachelor degree or higher qualification).

Skills assessment authority

National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI)
NAATI is a national standards body owned by the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments of Australia that assesses translating and interpreting qualifications. NAATI accreditation is the only qualification officially accepted by employers for the profession of translating and interpreting in Australia.
Once accredited by NAATI, you may practise as a translator or interpreter in any state or territory of Australia.
