1.1.7 Temporary residents (non-economic)

Objective

This component aims to develop and administer temporary visa arrangements that further Australia’s social, cultural and international relations.

Description

Temporary Resident (Non-Economic) visas facilitate the entry to, and stay in, Australia of individuals for a wide variety of purposes such as: foreign government representatives, including those with diplomatic accreditation; training opportunities at an occupational, trade and professional level; university instruction and research projects; individuals undertaking religious work; sportspeople competing in high profile events; and retirees residing in Australia during their retirement years. A diverse range of purposes are catered for, enabling individual holders to make valuable contributions to Australia’s international standing and enrich the nation culturally and socially.
