Sub-program 7.1: Immigration Review Tribunal
Objective
To provide independent merits review of certain migration, temporary residence and visitor visa decisions to ensure that these comply with the requirements of administrative law and in accordance with the Tribunal's statutory objective of providing a mechanism of review which is 'fair, just, informal and quick'.
Description
The Immigration Review Tribunal (IRT) provides its own annual report to the Parliament through the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs. Details of its performance can be found in that report.
On 31 May 1999, the IRT ceased to exist. On and from 1 June 1999, the functions of the IRT and the Migration Internal Review Office merged to form the Migration Review Tribunal (MRT).
The MRT will provide its own annual report to the Parliament through the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs. Details of its performance can be found in that report.
