Sub-program 5.2: Visa Framework
Objective
To support the development and implementation of policies and programs by providing effective and accurate legislative services and legal policy advice.
Description
This sub-program deals with Portfolio-wide legal and legislative issues as well as the rules, codes and other issues governing visa structures.
It develops policy in relation to legal matters and cross-program issues such as bridging visas and visa application procedures; undertakes the management of the portfolio's legislative and regulatory programs; develops procedures and provides training on the legislative change process, policy development, lawful decision-making and international human rights law; provides advice on legal policy and international law issues affecting portfolio policies and programs; and develops the legislative and regulatory framework relating to visas.
Visa Framework Branch is responsible for administration of the sub-program.
Performance information
Outcomes are measured by the extent to which:
- legislative and regulatory change is managed and coordinated;
- advice on legal policy and international law issues is provided;
- training on decision-making processes (when requested) and legislative change is provided; and
- advice is provided on legislative changes to bridging visas.
