Secretary's Review - migration agents registration

The Migration Agents Registration Scheme (MARS) was reviewed in line with Government policy to reduce the cost of regulation to business and to encourage self-regulation.

The result is that the migration advice industry will move to statutory self-regulation from March 1998.

The power to regulate the industry will be delegated by the Minister to the industry body, the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA).
