DIMA Annual Report 1996-97
Introduction
The Annual Report of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) gives details of program operations and finances for the financial year ending 30 June 1997.
The report has four main parts:
part one – portfolio and corporate overview;
part two – program performance reporting;
part three – financial statements; and
part four – appendices.
The two statutory authorities within the Portfolio – the Immigration Review Tribunal and the Refugee Review Tribunal – publish their own annual reports and therefore, apart from including their data on Senior Executive Performance Pay to preserve privacy, are not referred to in this document in any detail. The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd., is a public company, limited by guarantee, within the portfolio which publishes its own annual report. It therefore is not referred to in any detail in this report.
Financial style conventions
The financial statements are prepared on an accrual basis in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines and professional accounting requirements. Additional information in relation to financial resources is summarised within each program and sub-program chapter.
All amounts displayed in multiples of one thousand dollars have been rounded using standard rounding conventions. Discrepancies in tables between totals and sums of components are due to rounding; totals are based on the underlying unrounded amounts and not the rounded amounts.
