1996-97 Annual Report

As required by sub-section 25(6), 25(7) and 9B(2) of the Public Service Act 1922, I present to you the 1996-97 Annual Report of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs.

The report includes:

• an account of the operation of the Adult Migrant English Program, as required by section 12 of the Immigration(Education) Act 1971; and
• a statement required to be tabled before both Houses of Parliament by section 42(d) of the Australian Citizenship Act1948.

Sub-section 25(8) of the Act requires you to cause a copy of the report to be laid before each House of Parliament on or before 31 October.
