About the Department

DIMA Annual Report 1996-97

6g: Consultancy services

When considering the engagement of consultants, officers are required to comply with the key principles applying to all Commonwealth procurement; that is, value for money, open and effective competition, integrity, ethics and fair dealing and maximising opportunities for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) industry development.

The Department also gazettes purchases and contracts of not less than $2 000 in the Commonwealth Purchasing and Disposals Gazette.

The Department has a series of standard consultancy contracts which were developed, in conjunction with the Attorney-General's Department, for use throughout the Department when engaging consultants.

The series of standard contracts includes variations with enhanced privacy considerations and/or information technology security requirements, as well as a contract which meets specific NSW legislative requirements.

A summary of the cost of consultants used by the Department and the main purposes for which they were engaged, is given in table 16.

A list of the consultants engaged during the year is available from the Director, Purchasing Reform and Advisory Section, Central Office, (02) 6264 4617.
