Women' issues

A national conference of regional Women's Issues Coordinators was held in June 1997 to provide an opportunity for them to share information and ideas, particularly on priority areas such as domestic violence, health and employment issues.

A video and booklet, Marrying and Migrating ... you have to work at it, was produced in direct response to concerns raised about the incidence of violence and abuse of women sponsored to Australia as fiances and spouses.

The Department was also involved in preparations for a National Domestic Violence Summit, proposed for the latter part of 1997.
