State and territory governments
Awareness of cultural diversity is an everyday aspect of Australian life, as is a strong immigration program and widespread settlement of migrants across Australia. Strategies to deal with access and equity issues in the delivery of programs and services have become an integral part of planning at all levels of government.
State, territory and local governments employ a wide variety of strategies to deal with issues within their jurisdictions. Financial and health education, employment initiatives, projects addressing social isolation, support for the victims of torture and trauma, youth sports programs and skills training are just some of the programs and services they make available, often in quite innovative ways.
Sharing information between different levels of government on emerging issues and good practice responses is part of efficient and effective delivery of government programs and services. The examples in this chapter aim to promote good practices and innovation by state, territory and local governments and, in doing so, support them in implementing the Access and Equity Framework’s leadership principle.
