Leadership

The principle of leadership is about making a difference to access and equity beyond implementation of agencies’ own programs and services. For example, leadership may be demonstrated through:

  • collaborating within and between agencies to publicise good practices, share information and coordinate or work together on programs and projects
  • working with state, territory or local governments, non-government and community organisations and contractors, raising awareness of their responsibilities and encouraging improvement in their responses to cultural diversity
  • contributing to the broader goals of cultural diversity policy by strengthening the settlement prospects of migrants, enhancing their ability to achieve self-reliance, and encouraging social, economic and educational participation
  • networking, collaboration and the sharing of information and resources which is particularly important for small agencies. However, as expected, this principle is best demonstrated by those agencies that provide a large volume of services to individuals, especially new migrants.
