Workplace Diversity Plan 2008-2010

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s (DIAC) mission is to enrich Australia through the well managed entry and settlement of people.

This can most successfully be achieved by employees who are well equipped to respond effectively to clients’ needs. At DIAC we will be best placed to meet clients’ needs if our workforce understands and reflects the diversity of our clients. Promoting a good understanding of our clients’ cultural background, language and life experiences can occur through employment of staff with diverse backgrounds and skills, as well as through awareness raising and education.

As Australia faces a tighter labour market we are most effective in meeting clients’ needs if we provide competitive employment opportunities for a wide pool of potential applicants.

The Secretary launched the Workplace Diversity Plan 2008-2010 on 19 June 2008.
