The winner of the 2009 Excellence in e-Government Award (e-Award) is the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) for their Visa Wizard and Citizenship Wizard project as reported on the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO).

About Visa Wizard and Citizenship Wizard

The Visa Wizard is an interactive, client self-service tool designed by the DIAC to provide prospective travellers and migrants with tailored information about their visa options.

Similarly the Citizenship Wizard provides citizenship information to clients based on their individual circumstances. Both Wizards are easily accessed via the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere in the world.

This new online capability means clients have easier access to clear, consistent information and improved client service.

Since September 2008, the Visa Wizard has received more than 1.6 million page views, at an average of 9500 each weekday.

The Citizenship Wizard was launched in December 2008 and has been viewed by nearly 88 000 people at an average of 800 each weekday.

'Since the new service was initially released in October 2008, take-up has exceeded expectations with 50 per cent more clients using the system than anticipated. Client feedback has also been extremely positive,' DIAC Secretary Andrew Metcalfe said.
