The Citizenship by Conferral Application Process

After your citizenship test/interview:

You can expect us to:

  • decide 95 per cent of applications for citizenship by conferral within 90 calendar days of lodgement

  • liaise with your local council to arrange conferral of your citizenship at the next available ceremony

  • explain any decision to refuse an application and tell you how to apply for review

We expect you to:

  • provide any documents or information we request within the specified time or such other time agreed with you

  • quote your file number or other reference number when you contact us or send us documents

  • make sure we are able to contact you by telling us if you change your address or other contact details.

  • understand that it may take some months after approval of your application for you to be conferred citizenship, depending on demand in your location
