The Citizenship by Conferral Application Process

Before your citizenship appointment:

You can expect us to:

  • provide you with a Transaction Reference Number (TRN) if you apply for citizenship online through our website
  • provide access to your payment information and the status of your application through the online citizenship inquiry facility if you apply for citizenship online through our website

  • acknowledge your application within seven (7) working days of receipt if you apply for citizenship by post and include in the acknowledgement a reference number and contact details for our Citizenship Information Line

  • provide you with a receipt or receipt number if you pay a fee or charge when you apply for citizenship in person

  • send a confirmation letter within two (2) working days of the citizenship appointment being made  

  • aim to see you within 10 minutes of the time of your citizenship appointment.

We expect you to:

  • appreciate that it is the role of our client service staff to help you find relevant information, not to provide you with advice or counselling on your eligibility

  • obtain all relevant information and supporting documents so you can lodge a complete application

  • let us know as soon as possible if you cannot come to an appointment we have made with you

  • cancel an appointment if no longer required.
