The Visa Application Process - Lodging your application

If you lodge your application for a visa online through our website:

  • we will give you a Transaction Reference Number (TRN) to confirm your application has been successfully lodged.

  • you can access your payment information or query the status of your internet-submitted visa application through the online visa inquiry facility.

  • you can find out how long it is likely to take to process your visa application, by viewing the e-visa services general information pages.

If you lodge your visa application by mail, or in person at one of our offices:

  • we aim to acknowledge your application within 7 working days of receipt (if it will take more than 7 working days to finalise your application)

  • if you are applying to come to Australia as a humanitarian migrant, we will also send an acknowledgement letter to your proposer or agent within 7 working days

  • our acknowledgement, where provided, will give you a reference number and contact details for the case officer or section responsible for processing your application

  • we will provide you with a receipt or receipt number if you pay a fee or charge
