Who Are We?

Our department is the key policy, program and service delivery agency responsible for managing the lawful and orderly entry and stay of people in Australia.

We promote a society which values Australian citizenship, appreciates cultural diversity and enables migrants to participate equitably.

Our work is carried out through offices in every state and territory and in more than 60 countries through our overseas network.

We are committed to ensuring Australia is a global leader in migration, humanitarian and settlement services.

To achieve this we manage and provide services for:

  • migration, temporary entry and humanitarian programs
  • proper and timely resolution of the immigration status of people
  • border security
  • the appropriate management and support of people in immigration detention
  • settlement
  • Australian citizenship
  • promoting the benefits of a united and diverse society.

This is delivered within a culture of high performance, supported by strong leadership and engagement with the community and our stakeholders.
