Values diversity

The department is a people-centred organisation – we believe our staff, with their diverse skills, languages, cultures and backgrounds, are our richest resource and are the key to the successful achievement of our departmental goals. We therefore encourage all suitable graduates to apply for our program, particularly those with a disability and Indigenous Australians.

Selection process

Your application will be subject to a three-stage assessment process.

Stage one: considers the information we have asked you to provide in the application form, including information about your citizenship, your academic results (undergraduate degree), and your claims against the selection criteria. Your responses to each criteira will be crucial at this stage and will be assessed by a panel of departmental offices to be considered to move forward to stage two of the assessment process.

Stage two: is an online assessment. These assessments are designed to assess your ability to solve problems and exercise judgement. They are an aid to selection, not an elimination device.

Stage three: Face to Face behavioural interview commencing June through August. The interview will be held in your home state and will consist of two panel members. You will need to bring a copy of your academic transcript, proof of Australian citizenship and two passport photos.

At interview you will be asked to nominate if you wish to remain in your home state or relocate to Canberra.
