How long your visa lasts

This visa is usually valid for between three months and four years starting from the date by which you must first enter Australia. Your visa grant letter will tell you what this date is.

What this visa lets you do

This visa allows you and any family members who have also been granted the visa to:

  • work in Australia for up to four years
  • bring your family with you to Australia – they can work and study
  • travel in and out of Australia any number of times as long as the visa is valid.

Your obligations

You and your family must comply with all visa conditions and Australian laws.

Work in Australia

You must:

  • not stop being employed by the employer who sponsored you for the visa
  • not work in a position or occupation that is inconsistent with the one for which your visa was granted.

If your employment ends, you must do one of the following:

  • find another employer who is willing to sponsor you for another appropriate visa (except for a Medical Practitioner (subclass 422) visa)
  • apply for another type of visa
  • leave Australia before your visa ends.

Private health insurance

You are responsible for all your health costs while you are in Australia. You and your family must have adequate private medical and hospital health insurance for the time you are in Australia unless your country has a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia and you are enrolled with Medicare. You can use an insurance company from in or outside Australia.

Taxation requirements

You must comply with Australia’s taxation law if you work in Australia. The Australian Taxation Office's website has more information.
