The Australian Embassy in Lisbon has no visa function. The Department's office in Madrid, Spain, manages visa and citizenship services for clients in Portugal.

Credit Card​

Payments using credit card may be processed in Australian dollars (AUD). We accept MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners and JCB. When paying by a credit card you may incur a credit card surcharge, banking and currency conversion fees and you will need to accept the risk associated with any currency fluctuations.​​​​​

Prior to lodging your application, you may need to notify your bank of an upcoming foreign credit card transaction. Failure to do so may result in your transaction being declined. Without payment your application is invalid.

Credit card transactions processed in Australian dollars (AUD) are processed in Australia.​​​​​ A credit card surcharge may apply to transactions made using your credit card.

For credit card payments use the Payment Details Form - 1440​.​​​​

Cash

You can pay by cash in Euros (EUR) only at the embassy counter. We cannot accept payments in cash in Australian dollars (AUD).​

​Making payment in Australia

Fees may be paid​ at any of our offi​ces in Australia. Once the fee has been paid, you will need to provide a copy of the receipt with your application.​​​

Citizenship

Applications for Citizenship by Descent are processed by the Australian High Commission in London.​​

Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra office in Australian Capital Territory​.

Biometrics

Biometrics are collected in France as part of the visa application process.

If you are in France, regardless of your nationality and lodging a paper-based visa applications you may be required to attend an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC) in person to provide your biometrics. A 10-digit fingerprint scan and a digital facial photograph will be collected. You should continue to send your visa application to this office. We will notify you in writing if there is a requirement to attend the Australian Biometrics Collection Centre in Paris to provide biometrics.

If you are in France lodging applications for Resident Return visas, Australian Declaratory visas and Australian Citizenship by Descent you will not need to provide your biometrics.​​​​

Residents: Apply in person to General Department for Justice Administration (Direcção Geralda Administração da Justiça – DGAJ). Or apply to other offices of the DGAJ at Coimbra and Porto, in judicial courts or municipal chambers if you live in a rural locality.
Non-residents: Apply by post to the address above.
Provide: identification card or passport.
